PWA News and Notes - 2/20/07

PWA News and Notes
February 21, 2007

It appears that King Booker has sustained a torn quadriceps and will be out of action for at least seven months, which puts Booker’s return somewhere towards the end of Summer or the early Fall. We wish the Booker man the speediest of recoveries.

This now leaves the question of who is going to replace Booker at CitySlam. Needless to say, Steve Austin will face someone at CitySlam.

Here is the prospective CitySlam card:

PWA Saturday Night Sizzle - February 17, 2007

PWA Saturday Night Sizzle
February 17, 2007
Colorado Springs, Colorado
The World Arena

Brock Lesnar strutted to the ring, with a smug sense of satisfaction. He says that he outsmarted Sting, and now he has the chance to choose the match where he could have the best advantage. Therefore, at CitySlam I, on March 2, it will be Sting defending the PWA World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar in a TEXAS DEATH MATCH!

To open up the broadcast, Kenny Dykstra (w/ Johnny Nitro) defeated Brother Ray in 11:44 with the Guillotine Legdrop. Nitro played the determining factor in this match, as he was able to distract Ray who didn’t have Devon with him. Devon arrived too late, but it doesn’t seem as if this the last we’ll see of these four.

President Reed Smith announces that Dykstra and Nitro will meet Team 3-D at CitySlam. He also announces a battle royal at CitySlam for the PWA All-Star Championship.

Jack O’Riley defeated Avery Andrews in 8:24 with the Pot of Gold. Andrews’ fondness for fitness didn’t help him here. O’Riley manhandled him. It seems that no one is going to get up from the Pot of Gold. Can Finlay do it?

Mike Knox defeated Doink The Clown in 12:42 with the Whip It. King Kong Bundy made his presence known by nearly smashing Doink into the ring steps, but Eugene tried to make the save for his friend, but it failed as Bundy got the best of him too. Doink and Bundy will settle this score at CitySlam.

Backstage, Bert Schnick asks The Ultimate Maniacs if the style of Rob Van Dam and Matt Hardy worries them. Warrior’s response is that it doesn’t matter what style RVD or Matt Hardy has, it is simply a matter of madness combining with destrucity in order to overcome all odds.

In a Semi-Final match in the PWA World Tag Team Title Tournament, The Ultimate Maniacs (Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior) defeated Rob Van Dam and Matt Hardy in 8:46 when Savage pinned Hardy with the Flying Elbowdrop. RVD hit the Rolling Thunder on Warrior, who didn’t feel it, then took RVD out of the match. It was cut and dry from there on. Savage and Warrior will fight for the PWA World Tag Team Titles at CitySlam I.

In the other Semi-Final match in the tournament, Taka Michinoku and Shannon Moore defeated Lance Storm and Dean Malenko in 6:53 when Moore pinned Storm after a flying forearm. Storm seemed surprised that Moore had pinned him. Malenko and Storm just smiled and offered their hands in friendship which Michinoku and Moore gladly accepted.

We now know that Taka Michinoku and Shannon Moore will face The Ultimate Maniacs for the PWA World Tag Team Titles. Moore and Michinoku have said not to underestimate them, and they have backed up their words so far. Will it lead them to gold? Find out at CitySlam.

In the main event, Brock Lesnar & King Booker defeated Sting and Steve Austin in 13:35 when Booker pinned Austin after the Scissor Kick. This match seemed more like two singles matches rather than a tag match. Sting and Lesnar fought throughout the match. Booker seemed to hurt himself going for the Scissor Kick, but it landed anyway. Booker needed help getting to the back. We’ll have more on this as we get it in.

Next week on Sizzle…one last show before CitySlam, and we’ll be in Grand Island, Nebraska.

We have been given word that Kurt Angle has asked for some interview time plus…

Randy Savage Vs. Shannon Moore
Eugene Vs. King Kong Bundy

PWA Saturday Night Sizzle - February 10, 2007

PWA Saturday Night Sizzle
February 10, 2007
Tuscon, Arizona
The Tuscon Arena

We roll into the Tuscon Arena, anxious to get started with tonight’s program, but newly crowned number one contender to the PWA World Heavyweight Championship, Brock Lesnar stalks towards the ring.

Lesnar wants to stack the odds in his favor at CitySlam on March 2. He calls out Sting, claiming that Sting couldn’t last 10 minutes in the ring with him. Sting arrives on the scene and disputes it.

President Reed Smith arrives and settles this debate. He makes a 10-Minute Challenge for tonight’s main event. If Brock can beat Sting in within 10 minutes, then he can pick the stipulation for the main event at CitySlam, and if Sting goes for the 10 minutes, then Sting can pick the match. Both men seem satisfied with this.

In our opening contest, King Kong Bundy defeated Eugene in 4:35 with the Avalanche. Bundy, angry from being played with by Doink, took his aggression out on Eugene, who tried his best. Bundy sought to injure Eugene by nailing him with a second avalanche. Doink came to Eugene’s rescue, but Bundy’s damage was done, and Eugene was carried out on a stretcher.

Finlay’s attack on Jack O’Riley is shown from last week.

Finlay defeated Skinner via pinfall in 16:01. It was only natural that Skinner wanted a match after Finlay clocked him in the head with the shillelagh. Two veterans went at it here, and showed that they still have what it takes. After a ref bump, Skinner tried to use the shillelagh, but Finlay stole it and used it himself and got the pinfall after the referee came to.

Jack O’Riley came out to the stage, carrying something very odd on his back. It was a giant green sack, and it contained Little Bastard. O’Riley heaved Bastard over his head, warning Finlay not to come any closer, but Finlay called O’Riley’s bluff. It was all for not, as O’Riley tossed Bastard off the stage through a stack of tables filled to the edges with corned beef. Paramedics raced to the scene as O’Riley laughed with terror. These two will go one on one at CitySlam.

In a 1st round match in the PWA World Tag Team Title Match, The Ultimate Maniacs (Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior) defeated Star Power (“The Rising Star” Gregory Helms and “The True Star” Adam Riggs) in 7:49 via countout. Helms and Riggs seemed to flow well as a team, but it was the shock of seeing Savage and Warrior together again that amazed the crowd. The power of the Warrior seemed to be too much for Helms & Riggs, as they decided that rather than risk injury or their pretty faces, they’ll walk out and live to fight another day. The crowd booed heavily for this.

In easily the best match of the night, and a 1st round match in the Tag Title Tournament, the newly formed team of Lance Storm and Dean Malenko defeated The British Bulldog & Owen Hart in 17:37 when Lance pinned the Bulldog with the Superkick. Malenko and Storm are wrestling talent at its finest, but Bulldog and Owen were no slouches either. This match could have gone either way, but it Storm’s clever countering that won this match.

In a rematch from last week, King Booker w/ Sharmell defeated Cibernetico in 9:17 after a spinebuster slam. This was straight forward, and Cibernetico could not fight both Sharmell and Booker.

Booker demanded that Cibernetico kiss his feet after the match, but Steve Austin’s music sounded. Booker awaited Austin facing the entrance, but Austin came from the crowd and leaped onto Booker with a Thesz press, and it looked like Booker was going to get a Stunner, but he got away just in time.

It was time for the main event. Brock Lesnar and Sting both got in the ring, but Lesnar asked the referee to check Sting. Sting checked out clean.

In the main event, Brock Lesnar defeated Sting via countout in 7:06. This escalated quickly into a brawl that took a turn to the outside. What Sting didn’t know is that Lesnar was hiding a pair of handcuffs in his trunks. He rammed Sting into the ring post, then cuffed his leg to the ring post. Sting couldn’t answer the ten count, and Lesnar wins on a technicality, and therefore gets to pick the match at CitySlam. Lesnar stood in the ring, holding the PWA World Title and laughing at the incapacitated Sting.

Next week on Sizzle…

We’re in Colorado Springs, and what does Brock Lesnar have in store for the match at CitySlam.

We’ll find out who are going to fight for the PWA World Tag Team Titles next week as well.

PWA Saturday Night Sizzle - February 3, 2007

The PWA Presents:
Saturday Night Sizzle
February 3, 2007
Las Vegas, Nevada
Orleans Arena

As we roll into the Orleans Arena, we have Brock Lesnar, wearing some very conspicuous shades pacing around the arena.

From the back door, is the newly appointed President of the PWA, Reed Smith, famous billionaire industrialist, who walks right into Lesnar. Lesnar stands at him trying to intimidate him, but Smith seems unimpressed.

Lesnar starts claiming that the last minutes of the battle royal for the title were unfair, citing that Sting could never beat Brock one on one. Reed asks what that has to do with him not winning a match where the object is to throw your opponent over the top rope.

Brock unimpressed by Reed’s sarcasm demands that he face Sting for the PWA World Heavyweight Championship tonight.

Reed says that because he is in a good mood, he’ll humor Brock. He’ll have Brock compete in a top contenders match and if he wins, he’ll face Sting at CitySlam on March 2 in Witchita, Kansas, but if Brock loses, then let’s just say there would be a fitting punishment.

In our opening contest, newcomer Jack O’Riley defeated veteran Skinner in 15:38 with the Pot Of Gold. Make no mistake, O’Riley is a hefty man, and to see him hit a top rope splash is impressive. O’Riley is calling himself “The Irish Terror,” which did not sit well with the man known as Finlay who attacked O’Riley at the first chance he got, nailing him with the shillelagh stick. Skinner got up and appeared to be in cahoots with Finlay until Finlay cracked him across the skull with the shillelagh. Finlay left to a nice ovation.

King Booker and Queen Sharmell decided to grace us with their presence, and claimed that royalty should be treated differently in the PWA, saying that there are certain minorities that are below him. He specifically mentioned Steve Austin, which the crowd popped for. Booker issued an open challenge to anyone in the locker room, and found himself in a match with Mexican superstar Cibernetico.

King Booker defeated Cibernetico via countout at 8:38 when Queen Sharmell nailed Cibernetico with the scepter. Booker celebrated as if he had won the World Championship, but it would not last long because glass shattered and Steve Austin rushed to the ring. He started fighting with Booker and eventually tossed him over the top rope. Sharmell tried to attack Austin from behind, but it didn’t help. Sharmell then proceeded to take a bath using nothing but the finest cans of Budweiser.

Our backstage interview, Bert Schnick, is with the newly formed team of Taka Michinoku and Shannon Moore. Schnick calls them a new MNM. Moore does the talking for the team. He claims that they are not here to be fodder for everyone else. Moore says that tonight’s first round match in the PWA World Tag Team Title Tournament is the first step into establishing dominance.

In a first round match in the PWA World Tag Team Title Tournament, Taka Michinoku & Shannon Moore defeated Team 3-D in 11:13 to advance in the tournament. Michinoku pinned Devon after hitting the Swinging DDT. Michinoku and Moore aren’t a team to be taken lightly.

King Kong Bundy is at the catering truck gathering food when Doink The Clown, for no reason what so ever, decides to throw a pie in Bundy’s face. Bundy gets irate, and tells Doink to meet him in the ring.

Doink The Clown defeated King Kong Bundy in 6:15 with the Whoopie Cushion. Bundy still had pie on his face. Doink was caught in the corner and Bundy went for an avalanche, but Doink used the squirting flower and a bulldog to take him down. The referee determined that the flower had water, and therefore not a weapon. Bundy was mad, and dragged timekeeper Seymour Schwartz in the ring. Bundy sat on him until security forced him off.

Backstage, Bert Schnick announces that we’ll see two new teams tonight face off in a 1st Round match in the Tag Title Tournament, Rob Van Dam and Matt Hardy, and Kenny Dykstra and Johnny Nitro.

Rob Van Dam & Matt Hardy defeated Johnny Nitro and Kenny Dykstra in 11:25 when RVD pinned Dykstra with a Northern Lights Suplex. RVD and Hardy seemed to blend well as a team due to their similar styles, but Dykstra and Nitro needed to learn a lesson about teamwork, because miscommunication is what cost them this match.

Brock Lesnar is warming up in the back, when Bert Schnick arrives informing him that his opponent is a man Lesnar has quite a history with. That man is Kurt Angle!

In a top contender’s match, Brock Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle in 17:08 with the F-5. Angle and Lesnar went toe to toe here tonight. Lesnar tried for a shooting star press, but Angle had countered with a superplex and a near victory. Lesnar got caught in the Ankle Lock, but Lesnar used his power to break it, and then Lesnar, with a much more determined focus nailed Angle with the F-5 for the victory.

Kurt Angle rolled out of the ring after the match surprised at what just happened. Lesnar celebrated in the ring to monstrous boos, but then spotted a fan at ringside wearing a Sting mask. Lesnar grabbed the mask from the fan and pulled out a lighter. He proceeded to set Sting’s mask on fire as the show ended. Talk about a sizzle.

Next Week on Saturday Night Sizzle (February 10, 2007)

we roll into Tuscon, Arizona and we have word that Lesnar will have words for Sting, but will the champion respond?

This and much more, next week!
